Guided meditation

Warm Rain · Тёплый дождь

A bedtime meditation for a hot night, a storm, and rain that stays

Lee + TwinsMeditation31 minFor sleep

Sound: Crickets and far thunder, then a storm that breaks and warm rain that stays, with a bus through the water and a gutter running. A warm pad with a felt-piano note now and then thins away four minutes before the end. Two low binaural tones sit under it all.

What to expect

It’s been hot all day. Maybe it was the weather, or maybe everything else. Then a storm breaks the heat, and warm rain stays all night. Through it come a few words in Russian, each one something to rest on as you fall asleep. Most of them come in English first. You’ll hear дождь, rain. Медленно, slowly. Пусть идёт дождь, let it rain. Nothing is a lesson, and nothing is tested. You don’t need to remember them.

The voice ends after about 19 minutes. The music is gone four minutes before the end, and the rain goes on.

How to listen:

  • In bed, with the volume low. Never while driving.
  • Say the words in your mind, or softly, or just listen.
  • There’s thunder at the start, far off. It’s gone by the time the rain settles.
  • There are long quiet stretches. Nothing has stopped. Come back on other nights.
  • Headphones bring out the two low binaural tones, a slightly different tone in each ear. A speaker is fine too.

About

Safety and aftercare. You can turn over, move or stop at any point. This is a way to rest on a warm night. It isn’t a treatment for any sleep difficulty.

Opening: The heat

It’s been hot all day.

The kind of heat that stays after the sun goes down.

Maybe it was the weather. Maybe it was everything else.

The window is open.

A fan turns in the corner, still going, the way a busy day keeps going after it’s over.

Far off, thunder.

The rain is coming.

Get comfortable, however you like.

You can move whenever you want to.

Tonight some of the words come twice: in English, and in Russian.

Each one is something to rest on, before you sleep.

You don’t need to remember them.

Say them in your mind, or softly, or just listen.

There will be long quiet stretches.

The rain goes on through them. Nothing has stopped.

Part One: The storm

The first drops land on the balcony rail.

Big, warm drops.

Then, all at once, the rain.

The rain.

Дождь.

Дождь.

It’s on the street, on the awnings, on the leaves.

The air is cooler already.

Breathe it in.

Вдохни.

Вдохни.

And breathe out.

Выдохни.

Выдохни.

Down below, a bus goes by through the water.

Slowly.

Медленно.

Медленно.

The thunder is further away now.

Part Two: The rain stays

The storm has passed.

The rain has stayed.

Soft now. Steady. Warm.

Close your eyes, if they’re still open.

Закрой глаза.

Закрой глаза.

Purple flowers from the trees lie on the wet street.

The air smells of rain on warm stone.

You’re here. Cool, at last.

Ты здесь.

Ты здесь.

The rain doesn’t need anything from you.

It can rain all night.

Let it rain.

Пусть идёт дождь.

Пусть идёт дождь.

Part Three: Finding the words

The word for rain.

Дождь.

Slowly.

Медленно.

Breathe out.

Выдохни.

Let it rain.

Пусть идёт дождь.

Part Four: Only the Russian

Дождь.

Пусть идёт дождь.

Спокойной ночи.
